Genuine Panama Hats
You might be surprised to know that a genuine Panama hat is actually produced in Ecuador. Traditional straw hats increased in popularity when Theodore Roosevelt was pictured wearing one while overseeing the construction of the Panama Canal -hence the misleading name. The fibers of a true Panama are made from the stalks of the toquilla palm plant that grow in the rural areas of Ecuador. These fibers are carefully woven into hat bodies by skilled craftsmen.
